The biggest problem with ad hominem attacks is that they can trigger the "sympathy" response from the less-well-informed. Have you noticed lately the number of "Poor me. I'm trying as hard as I can." comments from several levels of government attempting a Katrina response? Perhaps it's a strategy to elicit some sympathy and sidetrack the criticisms of their collective rectal-cranial inversion syndromes? Of course, "as hard as I can" may indeed be a totally accurate comment.

He disgusts me on a personal level, so I have no qualms about making personal attacks.
I don't know what he's trying to do in these photos, but clearly, he's not trying to pick up the phone and set plans into motion.
